Panacea Bio Chem CMLase Research Programme

Panacea Bio Chem is investigating CMLase within a wider molecular-repair, formulation, preservation and delivery programme led by Bogdan Dicoias. The objective is not to repeat existing research: it is to develop, stabilise, formulate and integrate the CMLase principle with other Panacea technologies.

Eight research pillars

  1. PILLAR 1

    Enzyme stabilisation

    Preserving catalytic activity through storage, handling and delivery — the condition on which every other application of the enzyme depends.

  2. PILLAR 2

    Oxidation control

    Managing dissolved oxygen, reactive oxygen species and oxidation-sensitive conditions around an enzyme whose own chemistry is oxidative.

  3. PILLAR 3

    Low-temperature formulation

    Formulation strategies that use controlled low-temperature states to protect structure and activity during processing and storage.

  4. PILLAR 4

    Delivery architecture

    Getting large biological catalysts to difficult extracellular and tissue targets — an engineering problem as much as a biochemical one.

  5. PILLAR 5

    Molecular accessibility

    Reaching CML located within dense proteins, collagen and the extracellular matrix, where the modification is least exposed.

  6. PILLAR 6

    Reaction by-product management

    Controlling the glyoxylate and hydrogen peroxide generated by the deglycation reaction.

  7. PILLAR 7

    Functional restoration

    Measuring whether deglycation produces real improvements in protein behaviour, tissue mechanics and signalling — not only chemical conversion.

  8. PILLAR 8

    Wider enzymatic repair

    Extending the principle — recognise an accumulated lesion, reverse it enzymatically — to other forms of accumulated molecular damage.

Panacea Bio Chem expects to publish new observations, experimental directions and technology developments arising from this programme in the near future.
